The List of the Harmed

This ever-expanding list began as a web blog project in Pennsylvania to catalogue verifiable reports of harmful results connected to the new Shale Gas exploration that swept across the State from around 2006 onwards. News of the blog spread, and soon reports were coming in from thousands of miles away in Texas, New Mexico, North Dakota and Wyoming.

Nearly ten years on, and the blog number of entries has risen to more than seven thousand, from all over America. This huge body of work disproves anyone’s claim of no evidence that fracking is dangerous. Each entry catalogues the location, type of facility, any toxic exposure or event and the resulting symptoms, with further links and more detailed information.

From polluted water to dead farm animals, from rashes and rare illnesses, to explosions, fatalities, accidents, spillages and breaches of law, the evidence piles higher and higher, that everywhere fracking occurs, ordinary people suffer.

Many of the reports are about individuals whose lives have been changed by fracking, but the largest single incident affected more than two thousand people in North Dakota when a train carrying shale crude derailed and exploded, leading to a mass evacuation.

There are also many reports of damage to homes and property due to earthquakes or other seismic movement, many of these from Texas, where the city of Denton has now imposed a total ban on the industry.

Our rapidly expanding Resources page contains a link to the full list.
